strawberry pie
I like to bake pies, especially during the summer holiday. I go "hmm, wonder what sort of fruit I want in it this time?", then look up a recipy. Last time it was apple pie, the time before that it was plums, this time it was strawberries, as you can see*. It turned out pretty good, but next time round, I'd probably change a thing in the recipy for the jelly coating, as it never stiffened this time round. Next time I'll try either rubarb or blueberry, I think.

On another note, I'm dead tired, and I couldn't possibly tell you why. I just am. I'm going to go buy food, and then I'll have a nice, long bath while reading American Gods, which I'm enjoying less than I'd hoped. Oh well, better finish it anyway.

*Please excuse the crappy photo, people who can actually take nice pictures of food. I'm not my mother.

We have a channel called Travel and Living where they have a show about brides to be picking out their dresses at one of the best wedding salons in America. I'm not ashamed to say that I get excited when I see it's on. It's brilliant! You don't have to deal with the boring stuff like seating arrangement in other wedding shows, not to mention that the bitchiness levels are significantly lower as well. It's just women finding pretty dresses! (Okay, the people that help the bride pick out their dresses can be a bit bitchy. I just want to tell them to shut up and let the bride get whatever dress she wants, dammit, it's her day, be supportive.)

I'm going to go watch The Hangover later. See the boys version of what's the fun part before the wedding. (Let's be honest, I'm going to watch Ed Helms and Rob Riggle.)

It feels weird to wake up, work for two hours and then go home to sleep for three more hours. Night shift at work is still pretty okay.

Chris Pine showering and picking up soap. I'm going to be spending the next few days in my bunk.
The password is soap.

I'm watching Boston Legal (I want to kill the director, but the writing is pretty amusing, and the bromance is pretty awesome), and do you know what William Shatner just said?
"Denny Crane, I once captained a space ship."
I won't deny that I squeed.

So I'm watching the Star Trek episode The Dagger of the Mind, and Spock performs a Vulcan mind meld for the first time in the show. Not with Kirk, sadly. Kirk is running around planet side with a girl he hooked up with once, whom I sort of want to smack for being an idiot.
However, the mind meld. It's so intimate it's painful to watch. Not really sexual or anything, but still. So very intimate. I get why Spock didn't want to do it, and as a viewer, I don't even have to experience the actual mental connection that he's created. Just the physical and spoken aspect of it is enough to make me squirm, I can't imagine how it must be when you're actually sharing your mind with someone else as well. If I were Spock, I would never do it with anyone but Jim, and I would never do it anywhere but in private.

(Yes, I do get this invested. What of it?)

I don't know how edited this is, and frankly, I don't care, because the slash is powerful enough to break through the screen and eat your still beating heart. Spock doesn't want to cuddle Kirk in front of the Klingons!

William Shatner, Chris Pine, James Earl Jones, Mark Hamill, Samuel Jackson and Hayden Christensen (shut up, he's okay outside of Star Wars) are all voicing characters in the same film that's going through post-production now. I may have orgasmed looking at the cast list. Oh, and look Neil Armstrong's in there too.

The moment I've got Star Trek XI on DVD, I will make a Kirk/Spock vid to Loathing from Wicked, and a Kirk vid to Bet On It from High School Musical 2.
Yes, I know, my taste in music is overwhelmingly awesome. The songs are absolutely perfect, though. Both of them.

Pine and Quinto actually refer to themselves as "Spork" at the beginning of the interview. I don't ship them, because I don't ship actors, but if I did, they certainly wouldn't be making it hard. Also, it's starting to get embarrassing to see how every female "journalist" conducting an interview with them just throws herself at them, flirting wildly. I know they're hot, I know you want them, I get it, but for crying out loud, acting semi-professionally shouldn't be too much to ask. Flirt when the camera's off.

If Culf is in a small rowing boat with both her parents and a lot of luggage, including her phone, iPod, computer and external hard drive, how freaked out on a scale from 1 to OMGWTF!?!?!?! will she be if the boat starts sinking.

We did make it to land in time with only my phone, shoes and clothes taking an involuntary bath. We might have yelled at my dad to row his damn fastest.

I cannot get over how amazing the casting for this gender-reversed version of Star Trek is. Just looking at it makes me smile, because it's so perfect. Raise your hands, everyone who would pay good money to see this. (As well as the original reboot, of course, because while I do think these ladies are very pretty and kickass, I do have a shallow side that enjoyed the man flesh of Star Trek a lot as well.)

I finally have to own up to this:
I find the concept of Vulcan hand kissing ridiculously beautiful. Do you think any potential boyfriends would dump me if I were to insist upon doing it occasionally?

My sister just returned home really exited because, guess what, she'd seen the Torino from Starsky and Hutch in town. Not the real one, obviously, but it was the same car, in red with the white stripe. She took pictures and showed them to me when she got home, squeeing over how gorgeous it was, and how it was even prettier in RL. She doesn't even like Starsky and Hutch.

"I have to admit, though, it wasn't easy coming up with fresh material for this dinner. A few nights ago I was up tossing and turning, trying to figure out exactly what to say. Finally, when I couldn't get back to sleep I rolled over and asked Brian Williams what he thought." - Barack Obama.

BARAK OBAMA IMPLIED THAT HE SHARES A BED WITH BRIAN WILLIAMS!

It stars here at 4.49, I think. You should watch the whole thing. Obama can be pretty funny when he wants to.

Spockish calm and gangly frame!!! Oh, John Hodgman, I love you so. And Barack Obama for flashing Leonard Nimoy the Vulcan salute. Oh Hodgman. "I have been, and always shall be your friend."

I was going to put Hodgman behind a cut, but really, my geeky heart swells with joy from his speech. If you don't watch Obama, please DO WATCH Hodgman. It was AMAZING! It's just Hodgman calling Obama out on his geekiness and testing him on it with really hard, geeky questions, and Obama loving it!

I'm going to have very little internet access for the next four days, as I'm going to a wedding in another city, then I'll go to England for two days so my dad and me can go to the Wimbledon opening together. See you on the other side.
